    Urinary Tract Infection (UTI)

    Overview

Urinary Tract Infection is a common infection in any part of the urinary system (kidneys, ureters, bladder, urethra) caused by bacteria. The infection usually starts in the urethra and then travels up to the urinary bladder and other parts of the urinary tract. Urinary Tract Infection is more common in women than men because of the smaller urethra in women (which becomes infected more easily) and the urethra is near the anus (a source of contamination). The recurrences of UTIs in women are more common. Risk factors include female anatomy sexual intercourse and family history. In Ayurveda, it is known as Pittaja Mutrakrichchra.
